The Bustle team are back and ready for action - we have dusted down our hiking boots, done loads of training (well a bit!) and are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks. For those of you that don’t know it is a 24 mile walk which includes Whernside (736m), Ingleborough (723m) and Pen-y-ghent (694m) and we are aiming to complete the walk within 12 hours.

Why are we embarking upon this painful adventure? We are hoping to raise lots of money for the Bristol Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. Some of this money will go towards buying 7 sleeper chairs for the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre. This means that when a someone is really struggling with their illness, family or friends can stay overnight on the ward with the person that they love to support them.

Charlie created the Bristol Bustle in 2013 because he wanted to give something back to the amazing team (Bone Marrow Transplant Unit) that looked after him for several years. Despite being very unwell after a second bone marrow transplant Charlie managed to walk 10 miles with friends collecting money whilst a second group did the Bristol Half-Marathon. During his last few weeks of life he once again rallied the Bustle crew to take part in the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canalathon. Unfortunately, Charlie died in March 2015 a few months before the event but he would have been so proud of all his friends who took part and raised lots of money.

On the 16th of September we will be going for it (or should I say giving it a go!) and in no particular order here is the crack team:

Any donations would be amazing, but if you are struggling to think of how much to give here is an idea courtesy of the Captain (Duane) - If each member of the Bustle team can get 30 friends to sponsor them 1p per meter climbed up the peaks (2153 meters) this will equal £645.90 (£21.53 x 30). With 24 Bustlers we should be able to raise £15,501.60. We also have three children taking part this time - Summer, Summer and Rosie which is fantastic, so please sponsor them too! 

P.S Charlie was always keen to make sure that people knew that a bone marrow transplant is not an operation - no scalpel or surgeon is present, just a ‘magic’ bag of blood given by a donor. If you are interested in joining the register of donors please have a look at www.anthonynolan.org.
