We fund care, campaigning and research to achieve a world free from MND

Story

I have been extremely lucky to secure a charity place in the 2022 London Marathon to raise awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association - a charity extremely close to my heart.

All my fundraising efforts for MNDA are in memory of my Nanny Evelyn, who was diagnosed with MND in August 2020. After a short and tough battle with the disease she passed away in October 2020. Before my Nanny was diagnosed I knew very little about MND; now that I am aware of the devastating impact of this disease on a person's life I want to do all I can to help the charity find a cure and prevent other families from losing a loved one to MND.

If you know me well then you'll know how big of a challenge training to run 26.2 miles will be. It will be immensely difficult, but being able to walk or run is something people take for granted and one of the many body functions that people diagnosed with MND are deprived of.

My target goal is £3,500, but any donation is greatly appreciated and goes towards a great cause that supports families affected by MND and researched to find a cure.

What is MND?

  • MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord
  • MND leaves people 'locked-in' a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe
  • The risk of developing MND is 1 in 300
  • Every day 6 new people are diagnosed
  • MND kills 1/3 of people within a year of diagnosis
  • There is no cure

Here is what your donation can help to do:
  • £10 provides an information pack for a newly diagnosed person with MND
  • £75 can fund a researcher for half a day
  • £300 provides basic level respite care for one day
  • £3,500 buys a light writer, giving someone with MND the chance to communicate with their loved ones again
All funds raised will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association; 50% of moneys raised over £3,000 will be given to the Northern Ireland branch of MNDA.
