Story
In October 2020, my childhood friend, Sophie, took her life aged 26.
We grew up together in a quiet corner of South London. When we weren't at the local girls' school, we spent our days at the tennis club, sometimes playing tennis but mostly getting told off for talking too much. That's how I'll always remember Sophie, her infectious laugh and sense of humour that endeared her to everyone who met her.
Sophie was a special friend to so many people all around the world. She enjoyed many things - sports, fitness, healthy eating, yoga and art to name a few - and always loved having fun. But Sophie also quietly struggled with her mental health, and her story is a powerful example of why we need to check on all of our friends, even those who appear to be happy, strong and thriving.
In April, I'll be running the London Marathon in memory of Sophie and to raise money for Mind, the amazing charity that fights to make mental health an everyday priority. Even though 1 in 4 people have mental health problems, most don't get the help they need. Mind is committed to changing that through the information, advice and local services they provide.
This is a cause very close to all of our hearts and any donations, big or small, would be greatly appreciated by Sophie's family, Mind and myself.
Now, back to the Marathon training, which I'm trying to throw myself into in true Sophie style!
Thanks everyone for your support ❤️
