First run in the Great City - 54:45, 4 mins quicker than last year. Work to do..

Please support me in my attempt to raise over £1,000 for Barnardo's, the partner charity of Kier (where I work) towards my team's target of £10,000. Every single £1 helps so please donate if you can.

I'm running at least four 10km runs (Manchester, Sheffield, London, Herts) over the next 5 months in memory of my mum who passed away last year after a 10 year battle with crippling illnesses.

Much of her illness together with her tremendous courage can be traced back to the abject poverty she endured as a child in the Mezzogiorno of 1950's Italy, working full time aged 5 in and leaving the family home to seek work in the big city aged 8. In 1950's Italy there was no Barnardo's looking out for children in poverty. Thankfully in the UK in 2012 Barnardo's are looking out for vulnerable children, campaign against child poverty, exploitation and abuse.

I'm confirmed for the following 10km runs already and hope to take at least 5 minutes off last year's time (I have only run twice before!):

- 20 May: Great Manchester Run (Great City, Great Football team)

- 8 July: Great British Run (London)

- 2 Sept: Bupa Great Yorkshire Run (Sheffield)

- 14 Oct: Herts 10k (in my new home, Harpenden)
