Being raised by lesbian parents meant that my sexuallity and coming out were never an issue. The safety of being comfortable with who I am in my family home is something that I am very fortunate to have. Sadly this is not the case for many young Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer (LGBTQ) people living in the U.K (and the world).

The Albert Kennedy Trust supports young LGBTQ people between the ages of 16-25 who're made homeless or are living in a hostile environment. 

It is estimated that 1 in4 homeless young people identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender.  Annually AKT receives 2,000 calls for support, and in 2013 was able to provide 6,000 nights off the street for young LGBTQ people.  85% of the young people that AKT support have faced some level of rejection by their parents just for being brave enough to come out and be who they are. 

I am very aware of the rejection & ejection of young LGBTQ people from their family home & the homophobia that many still face today within school and society. It is important that The Albert Kennedy Trust is able to continue their work, so I am asking you to sponsor me as I undertake perhaps the biggest endurance challenge of my life so far. 

 Doris (my bicycle) and I will cycle through south east Australia -1129km/657 Miles (thats the same distance from the bottom of England to the top of Scotland). I will start in Melbourne and finishing at Sydney Opera House. I have given myself 18 days to complete this feat.  

My goal is to raise £1000. With the support of people out there who believe this to be a good cause I am confident we will be able to raise this money.

£15 enables AKT to provide a young LGBT homeless person with a bed for the night in supported lodgings with Lesbian or Gay Carers

£50 Will provide a young person with an Emergency Support Pack, which includes 3 nights accommodation, bedding, toiletries, food vouchers and travel allowance. 

£150 will cover the cost of providing bedding and towels to a young person.
