Story
The Croxley Mummers play is a pastiche of the George and the Dragon fable, with added characters. It has been performed in Croxley Green by a group of locals since 1994. It is a revival of a play first performed by boys from the Croxley School in the late 1920's The words used then as now were written by Neggy Wilson a master at the school. They are based on the words of the traditional Cornish play.
In modern times the play is performed on the last Sunday before Christmas in open spaces and public houses around the village with annually re written topical references thrown in.The purpose of the play is to keep alive one of the traditions of Croxley Green and in doing so we raise money for the Peace Hospice . Up until this year we have raised just over £8500. This year however due to Covid 19 we are unable to safely perform the play in public so decided to do a virtual performance. The play has virtually (no pun intended) been rewritten to reflect the current situation and we hope that it will bring as much enjoyment as the live performances have in the past.
We live in unprecedented times and because of this the Peace Hospice needs our help more than ever. Please give what you can, every penny helps. Here is a link to the performance
