Story
David Morley Architects has entered four teams into the Great Team Relay event on the 14th of July to raise valuable funds for Momentum, a charity that supports children with cancer or life-limiting conditions, and their families, in South West London and Surrey.
Helen James, Associate at David Morley Architects comments, “One of the first things that happens when your child is diagnosed with a life threatening illness, like cancer, is they and you have to spend a significant amount of time living, sleeping, just being, in the clinical environment of a hospital. Momentum work hand-in-hand with local hospitals to physically improve the facilities and healing environment to make children’s wards more child friendly and the frequent hospital stays more bearable."
"I am very excited to hear that Momentum have just commenced a major upgrade of the children’s oncology unit at my local hospital, St Peter’s in Chertsey, where my son has been treated. It will make such a difference. Momentum also supports families in so many other ways, from coffee mornings, trips, treats, therapies for children undergoing treatment to contact with other families with children undergoing treatment. These experiences bring rays of sunshine to a very difficult time. My family is so thankful to all the help and kindness that Momentum has shown us since Thomas’s cancer diagnosis.”
Momentum support around 150 families directly, and many thousands of children benefit from its hospital improvements. Each year it arranges hundreds of trips and treats, and organise respite holidays for around 70 families.
