On 14 July 2013 Alex, a friend who I had grown to know pretty well through University football over the preceeding months, tragically passed away as a result of a rare and little researched heart condition called Myocarditis.

myocarditis  (ˌmaɪəʊkɑːˈdaɪtɪs)

n

inflammation of the heart muscle

In the weeks and months after his death Alex's family have and continue to dedicate a large amount of time and effort in to raising awareness and knowledge about the condition which somewhat suffers at the hands of research in to the research of other higher profile cardiac conditions.

The result of the Jansons' family effort has been to set up their own foundation in memory of their son, with the endeavour of raising both awareness, and money to help fund a research paper in to the condition with a long term ambition to raise the profile of myocarditis among cardiac health researchers.

Perhaps the most important thing to know about myocarditis though is that it can effect anyone regardless of how healthy they are, and especially the young. So when I ask for your donations think of your children, your neices and nephews or your grandchildren, think of their future and be proactive; be preventative.

All donations welcome no matter how big or small, to quote a well known supermarket chain "every little helps".

Throughout my 6 month training prior to the event, which takes place on 2 August 2014, I will be writing a weekely training blog with updates on my progress and general topics and questions that come to mind.

Please feel free to follow my progress and give me any tips or support along the way!
