Story

I have decided to do something with my life. This summer I am going to Sri Lanka for 6 weeks to improve the health of the local people in the inland communities. Our work is being made possible by the kind people of Sabaragamuwa University. We will coach at the university and in the surrounding primary schooIs. However, there are many activities for the whole community.

I am going as part of a team with other Durham University students. We are representing DUCK (Durham University Charities Komittee). The aim is to improve their fitness and health through sport. We will be donating lots of equipment to help them maintain this too. Basically we are trying to improve their lives. We will also teach them some basic English which is essential to giving them more options in life.

The project has been going for 6 years, and each year we are able to add another school where we assist with the school kid's health. To give you an indication of their fitness it is not unusual for many of them to physically not be able to get to level 4 (an average walking pace) on the bleep test. In Britain, level 4 is where the scoring starts on the multi-stage fitness test (bleep test). Our work is grately appreciated, and the local Minister of Sport has been known to acknowledge the positives of the project. Please can you donate some money to the cause so the children and community get the help they need.

To help raise money in early january I walked 33 miles on my own from High Barnet to Mordern via Bank (the length of the Northern Line tube) taking a photo at each station.
