Story

We are a team of 5 embarking on a 3 day challenging cycle ride from London to Truro in Cornwall to help raise money for 3 fantastic charities that are very personal to us. The 300 mile trek over 3 days will test us mentally and physically, but we all know that the monies raised for each of the 3 causes will go to great use.

Day 1 - 93 miles with 3,921ft

Day 2 - 107 miles with 6,371ft

Day 3 - 100 miles with 8,068ft

This equates to 2.9 miles of climbing.

The Team of riders taking part in this challenge are:

Daniel Galleni

Neil  Solomon

Alan Russell,

Jordan Buche

David Duffy

Below are some words regarding each of the 3 charities we are raising money for:

Shooting Star Chase - New memory tree:  https://www.shootingstarchase.org.uk/

Having spent 9 months living at Shooting Star Chase Children’s Hospice with our son Max, I have been able to see what this amazing charity offers to the children and families. Each year Shooting Star invites bereaved families back for a memorial service which includes hanging a star on the memory tree in the Tranquil Suite garden. Having experienced our first service last year I realise and appreciate how important this day is to myself, Jane and all the families involved.  The tree is now full of stars and they need a second tree to continue this amazing service giving each supported family a permanent memorial at the hospice.  As a bespoke piece of art with inset stones and gems attached to each branch, the cost of the tree is a significant investment for the Charity. Monies raised from this ride will help in our promise to fund this in memory of our little hero Max. X

The Brain Tumour Charity: https://www.thebraintumourcharity.org/

To do any sort of challenge you sometimes need a motivation to get up and do it. Unfortunately these motivations are sometimes spurred on by unfortunate events in our own lives and I am no different.

People who know me will know my wife Jo has recently been through a tough time following the diagnosis of a Meningioma Brain Tumour (fortunately was benign) which needed to be removed. Complications during the initial surgery meant that over 3 months later she is just getting back to herself. However it does not end here for Jo as because of the complications originally only part of the tumour was removed and she has to go back later this year to have the remaining section removed.

This is where my motivation comes to support The Brain Tumour Charity.

They have been a source of information and comfort during this time and as all charities need financial donations to keep the service they provide at the highest level which is why I would ask that you donate to this very worthwhile cause. (David Duffy)

The Teenage Cancer Trust: https://www.teenagecancertrust.org

Every day in the UK, seven young people (aged 13-24) are rocked by a cancer diagnosis. Just when life should be about fun, friends and future plans – cancer shatters everything.
Still reeling from the news, many young people are rushed to a hospital ward where they’re treated alongside small children or much older adults. There are probably no other patients anywhere near their age. The staff might not be experts in the cancers that affect young people, and often are unable to explain the treatment in words they understand. Rigid visiting hours make it difficult for friends or siblings to visit. Teenage Cancer Trust are there to give teenagers and young adults the chance to identify symptoms earlier, access the specialist care that they need, and face a world beyond cancer with the confidence and opportunity to reach their full potential. We support these young people before, during and long after their cancer treatment.

Having to watch both family and friends suffer from Cancer over the last few years including teenagers I believe that this is a fantastic worthwhile charity that can always do with support, which is my motivation to get back on the bike and ride over the rolling hills to Truro. (Neil Solomon)

Any size donation is hugely appreciated by us all.
