Story

Hi there.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my justgiving page.

Having not done a sponsored event since my twenties, I thought that it's about time that I stepped up to the plate in order to support a very worthwhile charity - Breast Cancer Care - one that is particularly close to my heart at this time.

As some of you are aware, I lost two cycling buddies of mine to cancer over the last 18 months.  Both Tim "Gandhi legs" Sutton and Ed "Nuts" Rikard Bell were members of our motley crew of cyclists "Les Veloistes Gentils" (LVG), and partook on our various cycling adventures over the last few years.  They are both missed greatly.

Discussing how best to honour the memory of our dear friends, a fellow LVG'er decided to look for a challenge worthy of their memory - and boy did he find one!!  Mont Ventoux, is a mythical and iconic mountain in the world of cycling, peaking at almost 2,000m.  It's landscape is harsh and baron, shaped by the extreme weather that it often attracts.  Climbing it by bike just once is a real tough challenge.  Climbing it more than once in a day is something not even the pro's have to consider, but that is just what I am going to try to do.

If I have the legs, and the weather is kind to me, I am aiming to see if i can join the select group of cyclists (Les Club des Cinglés) that have managed it 3 times in a day - one time up each of the paved routes to the summit.  Having never done anything quite as extreme or tough as this, the prospect of this challenge is just plain daunting - but I will give it my best shot and try to go as far as I can.

So, on July 12th, I shall be climbing Mont Ventoux accompanied by some other LVG'ers to honour both Tim and Ed.  I really hope that you can help me to achieve my aim of hitting my target in support of Breast Cancer Care.

Many thanks
David
