Story
After moving down to London and starting my career working as a Veterinary Surgeon for the VET in Waltham Forest, which has quickly become a new family for me, both with the staff, clients, and their furry relatives. I realised I needed another challenge...
I have always been interested in great apes, especially Orangutans, and their relationship to us. We share so many similar traits and genes, they are our cousins on this earth, yet we are failing them. If we fail to protect this endangered species then I feel there is little chance for any other. I also love to run, most recently doing the Liverpool Half Marathon. I also a little crazy, so I applied to do this London Marathon for them, to give them a voice and to raise funds to help this amazing charity carry out their vital work.
This is a brief outline of SOS and the work that they do;
Sumatran orangutans are critically endangered, with only around 14,600 left in the wild. Indonesia has the highest rate of forest destruction in the world.SOS protects orangutans, their forest and their future by:
• supporting local people to improve their income at the same time as protecting the rainforest
• rescuing orangutans and resolving conflicts between villages and orangutans
• campaigning on issues threatening the survival of orangutans in the wild.
• restoring damaged orangutan habitat through tree planting programmes
