Story

My name is Eddie and I'm currently 32 years of age. At the beginning of October 2013 I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer after being rushed to hospital in need of an emergency blood transfusion and iron infusion. What caused this anemia was a 10cm tumor on the corner of my ascending and transverse colon that was bleeding into my large intestine.

Nearly a whole year later,  after 10 rounds of heavy duty chemotherapy and some fairly major surgery I'm now on the way to being signed of as 'clear of cancer'. My recovery is going well and my next scan is in December.

In that year I also became a dad. We found out Claire was pregnant a week before my diagnosis and my first child, Fraser was born on May 21st this year, only 6 days after the surgery to remove the tumor.

Life is on the up for us as a family and that is largely thanks to those who provide care and major decisions in the NHS and its supporting charities and networks. That care and decision making could not happen on the level it does now without the fund raising that happens outside of the NHS network. Beating Bowel Cancer most probably had some input in the treatment I received and I feel it only right that I make the effort to try to repay some of the debt I owe to them.

The Marathon is due to take place on April 26th 2015, (which also happens to be my mums birthday). My dad and brother have both run the London Marathon a number of times and this time it's my turn. The difference this time around is that I won't be running it. I'll be walking it, pulling a pulk (used to carry equipment over ice and snow) whilst wearing snow shoes. In that pulk will be various items which I have yet to choose, but much of it will be charity based.

If you would like to donate to Beating Bowel Cancer and sponsor me in my adventure 'Snowshoeing Around London' then please follow the instructions on this page. Your generosity will be very well received and if you ever needed proof that the funding goes into saving lives you only have to read the story above.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
