I was made aware of this fundraising event (taking place 10-17 November 2018) and it just so happens that it  will be exactly 30 years since I was introduced to The Hospice of St Francis in November 1988 (then located in Shrublands Road) My beautiful Mum was admitted to the Hospice and to say we were in total shock and emotional agony is an understatement.  Today I can still feel that 'punch to the stomach' pain when I remember hearing the news that my beloved Mum was going to die.   The hospice was life changing for all the family as it offered support and understanding and a comfortable homely feel to every room in the building.  We were encouraged to stay as long as we wanted, and were spoilt with delicious meals and endless cups of tea.  Visitors came from afar and were greeted warmly.  The support we received on that dreadful day that our Mum passed away was incredible.  I have never forgotten the kindness and compassion from all the amazing staff.  Nothing was too much trouble and they took time to comfort us in our grief.  Unless you sadly experience their work it is impossible to understand just how much it helps.

 So, this is why I will put on those walking boots, and trek for 3 days in 40 degree c  heat across the  arid Sahara desert,  and sleep in 0 degree c conditions at night. Then onto the community project in Marrakech which supports street children as well as a medical day clinic, and a home for the elderly.  For me the 'no bathroom facilities' during the trek may pose a problem as I am a lover of my shower, but I am sure I can manage for a few days.  Please join me in 'spirit' and support me on this challenge whilst raising money for such a worthy cause.  Today the facilities at the hospice are life changing for so many people, they continue to do amazing work supported by loved ones and the community. 

 Fundraising is perpetual and those that support the Hospice know that it cannot cease for a moment.  I am also very lucky that I have the support of the wonderful Egerton Rothesay School where I work who are not only allowing me time off during term time, but are willing to pay me in full and assist me in raising as much as I possibly can.  ERS are also ardent fundraisers for the Hospice and encourage the pupils to organise events throughout the year.  Please, please donate what you can, and I will do my best to rise to the challenge.
