Story

St. Andrew’s Hospice endeavours to provide a high standard of specialist palliative care to the people of Lanarkshire, encompassing human dignity and compassion. As Lanarkshire's only specialist palliative care hospice, we provide multidisciplinary support for our patients, their families and carers. Whilst we receive funding from NHS Lanarkshire and other sources, this only partially covers our running costs. Continued provision of these services is only made possible by the generosity and assistance of the people of Lanarkshire.

Unfortunately we all are likely to know someone who has accessed or will access support from St Andrews Hospice. But fortunately we are lucky to have such a great resource on our doorstep.

We sadly lost a family member to pancreatic cancer quite suddenly, Ellie’s Papa Joe. Being a young, fit papa of one, we didn’t realise that he wouldn’t get the opportunity to be papa to the Malone Baby Boom of now 6. Ellie helped Joe to experience what it was like to be a papa, even if only for a short time, and she holds this dearly in her heart. Amongst the sadness, we are comforted by the thought that Papa Joe is having fun watching over the carnage that all these babies are now causing and loving every minute of his front row seat 😊

St. Andrews Hospice helped our family to have time, space and support when it was needed. This support has extended over the years to other family members who have also accessed this amazing resource, including Ellie’s Uncle Tam, who sadly passed away as a young man to Bowel Cancer just over a year ago. This is just two small stories in a very large book and so Ellie has chosen to fundraise to say thank you, on behalf of us all.

Ellie is in her final year of Primary School and has always participated in activities involving fundraising, helping man cake stalls for a friends charity to doing fun runs and obstacle courses. She is active and present in her school community and is always lending a helping hand. She is an amazing young lady and I am proud to say she has asked to take this year to fundraise. From arranging an Easter Egg Hunt earlier this year at a local nature walk to running Little Mudder in summer with one of her best friends, Addison. The Easter egg hunt was a success and Little Mudder helped to raise awareness for mental illness.

We would greatly appreciate if friends and family can support her to get one step closer to her goal. A small donation to such a great cause will help Ellie to say a BIG THANK YOU!

Ellie will continue to take part in challenges and continue to raise money with the hope to present her gift to St Andrews Hospice on May 1st 2020 on Joe’s anniversary.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Ellie!

And thank you in advance for your support.

Ellie Xx
