Story

With it being over 10 years since my mum passed away due to breast cancer and I am now old enough to understand, I feel like its time to give something back to the people that helped me and my family the most through the most heartbreaking time of my life to date. Me and my wonderful supportive friends have decided to do the 10K race for life in Leeds.

My mum got diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2000, when I was just 2 years old and my brother was 5. As I obviously do not remember this, I do know that this must have been the most heartbreaking news any parents with such young children could get. However, my mum did not let this news effect our family and she genuinely carried on as normal, always ensuring that she had her gorgeous smiley face on.

The years went by and my mum did her best fighting and trying to beat cancer. As well as this my mum did her best to give back to the hospitals and tried to support all of the other patients that were around her in the same position as her. As everyone that knew my mum will say, she NEVER thought about herself even when she was extremely poorly. When she went into the hospital for her chemo, she wouldn't be able to walk down the corridor without being stopped by numerous people, everybody knew her.

As the years went on my mum began to worsen, no matter how bad my mum felt she always attempted to do what was best for me, my brother and my dad. I remember on my 5th birthday she was extremely ill but she still made me have the best birthday ever and it is definitely one that I will remember forever as it was when I got my first bike!!

After fighting against cancer for 5 years, in 2005 my mums cancer began to spread. On the 14th June 2005, cancer got the better of my mum and sadly she passed away when I was only 7. I will NEVER forget what an amazing person my mum was and I will live on doing everything in my power to make her as proud as possible.

Now, I want to raise money for Beechwood Cancer Care Centre which helped my mum while she was facing cancer and ensured she knew that she was not facing the battle on her own! And they also helped me, my brother and dad when my mum unfortunately passed away. Endless counselling sessions we all wished it was all a dream. I want to give everything back to Beechwood that they gave to me and my family!
