Story

In April 2015, I set out to climb Mount Everest from both sides and raise money for Chestnut Tree House. Had I been successful, I would have become the first Briton to accomplish this. However, due to the devastating earthquake that happened in Nepal, I decided to finish my expedition early.

I am currently aiming to go back next year and carry on fundraising, and try and hit the target of £50,000 for Chestnut Tree House.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported and sponsored me so far; it has been really fantastic to have that support and without it, it wouldn’t have been possible! I haven’t finished the project yet and just need to keep going and make it happen again next year!

WHY I AM SUPPORTING CHESTNUT TREE HOUSE

Not everybody who climbs Everest does it to raise money for charity, but for me it seemed like the ideal opportunity to combine an immense challenge with raising money for a great cause. I hope that people will be inspired by what I am setting out to achieve and that Chestnut Tree House will benefit as a result.

I chose to support Chestnut Tree House, a children's hospice in Sussex, having seen the amazing care they provide for desperately ill children. My own brother Will suffered from a hole in the heart from birth and almost lost his life. He received incredible care but he and my family would have benefitted immensely from the support and care which facilities like Chestnut Tree House are able to provide. Hospices receive very little public funding and rely on donations, and I hope that my climb will help to ensure that Chestnut Tree House can continue its great work.

About the charity

Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and South East Hampshire, caring for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age every year, both at the hospice and in families’ own homes.
