Fundraising for Kidney Care UK
Story
In 2015 myself and my sister in law, Charlene Phillips, organised a charity event to raise money for the British Kidney Patient Association (BKPA).
The aim of the BKPA is to improve the lives of patients who undergo
kidney treatment by offering support and contact.
When Charlene was 10 years old she was diagnosed with renal failure and she underwent over 200 operations between the age of 10-29 years, she also had regular dialysis three times a week at Arrowe Park hospital. Charlene received two kidney transplants during her time, sadly both failed for different reasons, but she was added to the waiting list for a third transplant. Unfortunately she did not manage to receive this.
In October 2016 Charlene had a routine operation to monitor a Hero Graft (artificial access vein). Sadly she did not wake up from the anaesthetic as she suffered a massive stroke, putting her on life support at Arrowe Park hospital for 9 days before she sadly passed away aged 29.
In 2015, we managed to raise around £800 for BKPA! This year we are organising another charity night in memory of Charlene to raise money for the wonderful BKPA charity who have helped us all so much as a family during her fight with kidney disease. Even after Charlene's death they have continued to support us hugely.
In May, myself and my university peers walked 18 miles from our University Campus in Wrexham to Chester Football Club raising money for BKPA. Most of us have never walked that distance before, or even half of the distance in fact.
Being able to complete the walk gave us all a huge sense of accomplishment and I am so grateful to those who were involved and to all those who donated.
Our big event will take place at Chester Football Club on the 22nd July 2017 at 7pm. We have a BBQ, DJ and prize raffle. The raffle tickets are 1 pound per strip and just some of the prizes include; a fruit juicer, signed Everton football photograph, Homebase lawn mower, breakout room experience vouchers and many more!
Entrance ticket prices are 5 pound per person and can be purchased through myself, the Graham family or also on this just giving page. In the comments section please put 'ticket purchase' and the full names of those attending and your tickets will be kept safely until the night or beforehand if required.
