I’ve done quite a few challenging charity rides before – 1 day, 2 day and 3 day events. But 7 days? In the wilds of Tasmania? Brutal. And to be honest, at this point in my preparation I’ll admit to having some serious doubts about my ability to make it the whole way. But then I think about my brother-in-law, going through a second round of treatment for lymphoma. And a colleague of my wife’s, whose daughter is going through
treatment for leukaemia when they should be enjoying their summer holidays. Brutal’s nothing compared to the fear, doubts and pain that I’m sure they, and anyone else dealing with this insidious disease, must face on an all too regular basis. I’m incredibly proud – and yes, a little scared – to be making my virgin Fireflies tour this February. And I thank everyone in advance for the support you give to me, my fellow riders, and everyone we ride for.
