Story

GVI staff, volunteers and interns will be camping in the jungle for 48 hours without luxuries, such as beds and showers, to raise money for our GVI Trust. During the 48 hour challenge, volunteers will sleep with just bare essentials and be responsible for making their own food using items from the forest to cook with. The volunteers will also have the chance to partake in medicinal plant identification, night fishing, star gazing and a chance to watch our elephants during the evening - a rare opportunity!

The funds raised through the GVI trust will go towards, amongst other things, keeping 3 of our elephants here in the forest.

Lulu, our youngest elephant funded through the GVI Trust,
has been able to roam the forest with her grandmother and mother since her
arrival on project in 2012. Just recently, Lulu’s father also joined the GVI
herd so it is vital that we allow Lulu to continue to live with her family,
where she belongs.

Sah Jah, one of more vocal elephants spends her days in
close proximity to her best friend Kha Moon. Sah Jah is also a bit of a social
butterfly and often switches between herds depending on where her mood takes
her, often acting as a mother figure to the younger elephants we have as part
of the GVI herds.

Khum Suk is the matriarch of our herd and grandmother to our
gorgeous Lulu. Khum Suk spends her days foraging alongside her daughter Kha
Moon and they’re never found far from one another.  As matriarch the other elephants follow her
lead in the best routes to take, as well as learning which foods are the
tastiest as they roam throughout the forest.

Not only is the GVI Trust able to help us support our 3
elephants, but also helps to provide emergency transport when our elephants
need to go to hospital, as well as supporting the living costs of the mahouts
during their hospital stay.

The GVI Trust also helps our partner Think Elephants
International to assist their mission in conducting elephant behaviour and
cognition research.

As well as providing funding for all the above, the GVI
Trust helps to fund resources to teach elephant conservation classes as well as
community related projects.

Please show your support for our volunteers, interns and staff through donating anything you can spare.

Thanks in advance!
