GVI Laos provides educational opportunities to a wide variety of Lao people from all different ages, ethnic groups, and backgrounds in order to create a more employment opportunities and life choices. We do this primarily through volunteering and fundraising. We offer English language classes within our Novice Monk, Children and Young Adult and Women’s Empowerment Programs. We also run a sponsorship program to support disadvantaged students gain greater access to education. Our goal is to provide locals with more life and occupational choices as well as contribute to the Lao society as a whole.

GVI Laos has a long standing relationship with the Luang Prabang Children’s Library. This library is also associated with 4 rural Learning Centres which provide important learning opportunities for rural students. One of the these Learning Centres, located in Nan District, three hours away from our base in Luang Prabang, is at risk of closing its doors. Due to its rural location, it is one of the very few of its type in the district. If it closes, many students will not have access to these educational opportunities. To ensure a better future for these students, we are fundraising to keep the centre open! Our goal is 3,350 euros ($3,600 USD), which is the combined annual salaries of the two wonderful teachers that run the centre. Not only will these students be able to continue their education, these teachers will keep their jobs and be able to continue to support their families..

In support of the Library and the Nan District Learning Centre, we are having a mini Charitable Trust challenge: a scavenger hunt around Luang Prabang! Current volunteers will be broken up into teams and follow various clues to different locations and temples around the picturesque Luang Prabang town. The team to solve the clues and make it to the finish line first wins! We are looking for your support to cheer on our volunteers and help us reach our goal.
