What are we doing?
In October/November 2017 myself and Michael Kelso will be travelling to Nepal to Trek to Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas. We fly to Kathmandu on 22nd of Oct from Glasgow via Dublin and Abu Dhabi. The following day we fly to Lukla to begin our journey on foot.
Our route to EBC is longer and more challenging than the standard Everest trail as it crosses three high passes. These are the Renjo La (5,388m), Cho la (5,380m) and the Kongma La (5535m). We also hope to ascend three peaks; Gokyo Ri (5,483m), Kala Pattar (5,545m) and possibly Chukking Ri (5,550m) a lesser known summit tucked under the imposing Lhotse-Nuptse wall.
Why?
In 2015 Michael sadly lost his brother Alan to MND and we are taking on this challenge to raise vitally needed funds for MND Scotland and to increase awareness of Motor Neurone Disease.
What is MND?
Motor Neurone Disease stops the nerve cells that control the body's movement from sending messages to muscles. MND is often rapid and always fatal. There is no known cure. As the disease progresses, the person will lose their ability to walk, talk and feed themselves, although their intellect usually remains unaffected. They will eventually lose the ability to breath unaided.
There will be more than 160 people diagnosed with MND in Scotland this year. They need your support, so please dig deep and donate now.
