On 29th March, 2018 my wife, Joanne and I had the saddest news of our lives when our baby daughter, Emily was born sleeping, 3 days before our official due date, at Grimsby Maternity Hospital.
Amongst the sadness and tears we were truly touched by the kindness, empathetic and warm hearted approach the whole medical team showed us, throughout our time on the ward and the after care we are still receiving.
The impact this whole experience has had on us has been life changing and has left us heartbroken, however, we decided we wanted to use our heartache to help others who will undoubtedly experience similar tragedies. In the UK alone there are 15 stillborns everyday.
We were looked after by the team on the Blueberry Ward at Grimsby Maternity Hospital, where our three day stay was made as comfortable as possible in their specialist family bereavement room, which is operated by donations alone. There is a lot of equipment that is necessary for families to be afforded the time they need to meet their stillborn babies, to welcome them into the world and take as much time as they need to say their goodbyes.
Due to the huge impact this has had on us, I have decided that, with the support of my two brothers Ben and Dan and close friend Woody, we are going to take on The 3 Peaks Challenge on September 1st 2018. By doing this we aim to raise as much money as possible to give back to the Blueberry team to help them to continue to support families who find themselves in these tragic circumstances.
Thank you for taking time to read our story and thank you for any donations that have been made and will be made to this deserving charity.
