charity by making a generous donation. PANS and PANDAS are neuropsychiatric disorders triggered by a misdirected immune response; leading to inflammation within the brain, which targets the basal ganglia (a portion of the brain responsible for speech, involuntary movement (tics) and emotion). 

PANS/PANDAS can have a severe and traumatising impact on children and their families. Often referred to as a disorder where the child's brain is 'on fire' and a condition that steals childhoods. Devastatingly, though treatment and outcome are time critical, in the UK particularly, they remain rarely diagnosed conditions. So you may not have even heard of PANS/PANDAS, but having witnessed the debilitating impact this condition has had on the children of two great friends, I felt the need to do my little bit. Heartbreakingly there isn’t a known cure, but PANS PANDAS UK do an amazing job working closely with a Network of Doctors in order to ensure better diagnosis and early effective treatment for those suffering with these little understood but life changing conditions

For my part I’ve committed to doing Ironman Austria on July 3rd: Swim 3.8km, Bike 180km and Run 42.2km. It’s my first triathlon and I’ve never even run a half marathon so directly ignoring all advice to start small and build up over multiple years, but will be worth the pain to support this cause!
