I was inspired by Josies story to take part in the Dragonfly Project....she was a special person who demonstrated great courage and strength

Josie was the most fun loving person and a joy to everyone who knew her. At the age of 12 she was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of AML, (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia)

Josie died in 2007 having courageously fought Cancer for almost 4 years. She won the hearts of thousands through her Strength Courage and Happiness in the face of her impending death and set up a charity to help support other children and teenagers with cancer, designing a dragonfly pendant to help raise funds.

Her calm acceptance, ability to enjoy life to the end and determination to help those she was leaving behind branded her as  "The inspirational Josie Grove" and  "A remarkable person"
She continues to be remembered as...
The girl who was always smiling!

I wish I had the opportunity to have met Josie,  sadly I did not.

My reason for helping with this Trust which was set up by Josie is for someone special my husband Les, I lost to Cancer in 2009 two years and 2 days after Josie lost her fight,  like Josie, Les, was a fighter and he also brightened up any room when he walked into.  Our lives were turned upside down when we were given the devastating news that Les had Non - Hodgkin- Lymphoma another type of blood cancer as leukaemia .  Les never complained.. like Josie.. what did upset us was whilst undergoing treatment at the RVI we would pass the Children's cancer ward in the old part of the RVI and see the little ones.  It broke our hearts.. I said I would raise money at Les's request, especially for children with cancer and this charity "Josie's Dragonfly" is a one I'm supporting.  Josie's is a charity in conjunction with CLIC and MacMillan that way the requests the Trust receives can  get to children quickly throughout the UK.

I work at Sacred Heart Primary School in Fenham Newcastle have asked if their Class YR 5 can help support this cause.  I have been so overwhelmed by this.  We will be holding events to raise money for Josie's Dragonfly. The children will be going around the classes informing the other children as to why we are doing this.  They raised £75 from a cake stall at 20p a cake/biscuit.

On Saturday Les's Cousin Theresa and her daughter Charlotte are taking part in the Junior Great North Run, in memory of Les and what Les stood for, all money raised from junior north run is being donated to Josie's Dragonfly helping children who need that little extra special things at there most difficult time in their lives.  Thank you Theresa and Charlotte xxx

All I can say now is that Josie... and my Gentle Giant will be looking down with pride at everyone who is wanting to help.

I'm funding my own flight  which is £861 from my personnel money, all the money I raise goes to Josie's Trust

So please read on as to the Dragonfly project does for Children throughout the UK. ...

The Dragonfly Project raises funds for Josies Dragonfly Trust and helps support children and young people living with cancer throughout the UK. The Trust makes a positive difference to children and young people at an incredibly difficult point in their lives by providing three main things.......cash gifts for young people with no hope of cure....... dragonfly dreams to create a moment of happiness when time is limited .....and arts and craft boxes to childrens cancer hospitals across the UK

Your support for me to raise money for this worthwhile charity will make a difference to so many children, young people and their families at a deverstating time in all their lives.

I know and believe that Les will be with me every step of the way and giving me strenght and determination to succed.

If you have a spare pound every penny counts.

Thank you
