We inspire young people to believe in a brighter future

Story

Gina loved to be active, but the effect of her leukaemia and its treatment meant this became more difficult.  Then she was introduced to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and had her first sailing experience around Oban in 2017.  She was excited to go, and the support and friendships she made transformed her outlook. She was really keen to go again and sailed around the Isle of Wight last June.  This was something positive, giving her freedom on the sea, not concentrating on cancer but with fellow travellers who really knew how each other felt.  She loved the sunsets over the sea and the feeling of movement on the boat.

When she knew the leukaemia had come back and her time was limited, she thought about what she would like for her funeral.  She was very definite that she wanted people to give donations, if they could, to the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust so more young people could enjoy the same fantastic experience.

About the charity

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer. For many young people simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible. So, when treatment ends the Trust’s work begins.
