Story

Almost 4,000 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK. Children with Cancer UK is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. We fund life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood cancer and we work to protect young lives through essential welfare programmes.

This year, I am running in memory of Kellie Lockwood and for her four children Morgan 14, Olivia 11, Indigo 5 and Henry (her much wanted little boy) 3.

In October 2015 Kellie was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer and shortly after she had the tumour and three of her lymph nodes removed.

In January 2016 Kellie started the first of 6 chemo treatments but could only manage 5 as the chemo was destroying her body. She then had 20 rounds of radiotherapy and in August 2016 was given the all clear.

Amazingly, she enrolled in college to start training as a nurse as she was so impressed by the chemo nurses during her treatment.  In November 2016, and after further tests she was told that the cancer had returned and that surgery was not an option.

Kellie and her family were told 2 days before Christmas 2016 that the cancer was terminal and she could only be given treatment to try and help manage the pain.

She died on 7th April 2017 at 34 years old.
