Story

Most of you will already know why I am fundraising for Ty Hafan, but just in case you don't, heres Louis' story;

6 years ago I ran the London Marathon in memory of my wonderful friend Matthew, at that time I was a new dad to Louis, who was a few months old. Now, 6 years on I will be running it again, to try and raise as much money as possible for Ty Hafan, in Louis' memory, to say thank you to them, and to try and help other families like ours.

Louis Edward Murdoch: When Louis was a few months old we realised our journey into parenthood wasn't going to be straight forward. Louis had a life-limiting condition, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, the most severe type. When he was diagnosed at 4 months old, they told us his life expectancy would be at best 9 months old. Our little superstar proved those statistics wrong, and we were blessed to have him with us for 3 years 8 months.

Our lives were turned upside down, but our beautiful boy taught us how to be brave, how to smile and to appreciate the small things in life. When we were referred to Ty Hafan, we were apprehensive, but it turned out to be the best decision we could have made. They understood us, they were compassionate and caring. And just like Louis, they helped us to live for the moment, to make memories and to cherish every second together as a family.

Louis loved Ty Hafan and everything it brought into his life. Thanks to Ty Hafan, Louis was able to do things that most people take for granted. He went swimming, he had music therapy, he enjoyed playing & singing with his Ty Hafan friends, he enjoyed going on the swings and roundabouts at the specially adapted playground. They have the most fantastic, interactive sensory room, where Louis could just relax and chill out.

They also helped us as a family. Each time we had to go into hospital, they would turn up with a cuppa and listen to us and help us raise our spirits. They gave Arlo amazing memories with his big brother, and also gave Arlo the chance to just be a baby & toddler. They are still there for us now, once you are part of Ty Hafan you are part of their family.

Ty Hafan is a much needed source of strength and support for so many families, just like mine. 2019 also marks Ty Hafan's 20th birthday, so it will be a special year to be running in support of them.

I honestly don't think I would have coped emotionally without the help and support of Ty Hafan. The nurses, play workers, the entire staff, are the most wonderful people in the world, but without donations, they aren't able to do their jobs.

So now, its my time to say Thank you, and to give something back. So, on the 28th Aprili will be lacing up my trainers, putting on my green vest and running the London Marathon. I know that Louis and all the other Ty Hafan children I have had the pleasure of meeting will help me every step of the way.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and read my story. If you can donate any amount I can guarantee that it will go to a fantastic charity that really needs our support.

Thanks again,

Greg

Sadly, thousands of families in Wales live every day knowing their child’s life will be short. At the moment, they often face this without any care or support. Alone. Afraid. Isolated. Tŷ Hafan’s ambition is that when a child’s life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own.
