Story

In April this year, 15 intrepid trekkers will be embarking on an adventure of a lifetime on St Catherine's Hospice Vietnam Trek.

The Hanoi Hikers will be raising vital funds for St Catherine's Hospice, as they walk through beautiful countryside in Northern Vietnam in April 2016, stay with local families in traditional stilt houses and experience Vietnamese culture.

The five-day challenging trek will take the trekkers far off the beaten track and into the remote and beautiful hills of Northern Vietnam in the Pu Luong Nature Reserve area. Each night will give the trekkers an authentic insight into the lifestyle of the ethnic minority people who live in the area - it's going to be an experience of a lifetime!

Since signing up, the Hanoi Hikers have been working hard to raise money for our team of Community Nurses who visit people at home. St Catherine's Hospice offers home care from 8am to 8pm and each patient's visit is tailored to their personal circumstance. Community Nurses can be doing anything from giving advice, to bathing a patient or making cups of tea. Just having someone to ask questions to, or to share a conversation with, can mean the world to someone with a life limiting illness during this difficult time.

For every day the Hanoi Hikers trek in Vietnam, they will be paying for five hours of care for a patient in the comfort and familiar surroundings of their own home.

To raise sponsorship trekkers have been doing all sorts of wonderful activities to reach their targets; quiz nights, collections at supermarkets and Christmas gift wrapping to name a few!

As well as fundraising, the Hanoi Hikers have been training through a cold and wet winter. From casual strolls to conquering Mount Snowdon, the trekkers trusty walking boots have been well and truly broken in and they're almost ready to take on the challenge!

Thank you for visiting their fundraising page. Every donation, however small, will help us raise the £17,000 a day in voluntary donations we need to provide our specialised end of life care free of charge. Your support means we can continue to care for local people living with a life-limiting illness, when and where they need us most.

Thank you!
