Story

UPDATE 09/09 THE Ride!

After much pedalling, we did it!

The 54 miles took us a cycling time of 3:58 and a total time (including a much needed lunch and taking in the awesome views) of 4:52. The day went rather smoothly with no mechanical problems or crashes (woohoo!) and we both enjoyed the experience incredibly and look forward to the next one!

Thank you to everyone for your very generous donations, we have completely smashed our target and raised far more than we thought possible.

Enjoy the pictures...

Ben and Harry

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in memory of my Dad, John. Dad lost his battle with Motor Neurone Disease on 9 August 2002 after being diagnosed only four months earlier. This September, Ben and I will be taking the challenge of cycling our out of shape selves 54 miles from London to Brighton to raise much needed funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

When Dad was diagnosed with MND very little was known about the causes and possible cures. In the last 11 years, groundbreaking research has been made, thanks to relentless work done by the MNDA. However, there is still a very long way to go and with such a small charity, every penny really can make a difference.

The MNDA also provide essential support to sufferers and their families. It is impossible to overstate the difference this makes.  For Dad, the MNDA provided advice, support and vital equipment, allowing him to spend his last months at home surrounded by his family and friends. Without their generous support, which we are all so grateful for, this would not have been possible. Fundraising to say ‘Thank You’ has always been an aspiration of mine.

As well as the bike ride we will be selling tasty home-made cakes and holding a raffle at the New Ash Green Community Fair on 31 August. We are also busy organising a good ol’ knees up for family, friends and public on the 26 August (bank holiday Monday) at Manor Field Pavillion, Hartley. Everyone is welcome to come and join us!

The London to Brighton bike ride has always been an ambition of Ben’s since completing a daily paper round when he was fourteen. Now, only a little older he is delighted to be completing it for such a good cause and hopes to also promote the MNDA and all their hard work.

This is our thank you to the MNDA for their incredible work! We hope to raise at least £1000.00 to further support their research and home care, but we need your help!

Please dig deep and donate what you can.

Many thanks,

Harry and Ben!

UPDATE 06/09

Thank you to all those who came to our Picnic& PIMM's event at Manor Field on 26th August. The total amount raised was £1000, which is amazing! Thank you to all those who helped out, donated their time and/or prizes and of course everyone who came and enjoyed the day. We couldn't of done it without you!

The cake stall at New Ash Green fun day raised over £235. Thanks to Ashleigh for the rocky road and flapjacks, Emma for her fudge, Frances Honey for her delicious macaroons and cupcakes and to my aunty, Pat, for all her help and famous bread pudding!!

Another £292 was generously donated by friends, family and supporters.

Thank you for the fantastic support both Ben and I have received for the ride, it has been rather overwhelming! We are delighted to have raised so much for the MNDA.

Thank you,

H+B.
