Story

Written by Hayley's mummy:
Grief is like wearing a heavy rucksack… the load never gets lighter..you just learn to carry it better ..

Loosing my girl..
I remember that morning Hayley came round, she had taken the morning of work to go to the doctors in an attempt to get an appointment. Hayley had been trying for weeks to get an appointment by phone, but with no success. Sitting at the breakfast bar she said “mum , I think there’s something wrong with me". Hayley said she had been getting some pain in her abdominal area. An appointment was booked and the doctor examined her. He looked concerned and mentioned several conditions, one of those being cancer. Hayley soon found out that it was , and they believed it was her kidney. By now she was in a wheelchair and couldn’t walk more than 10ft . Her right leg was causing her so much pain and she was never comfortable and heavily medicated. Hayley had her operation where they found that the cancer had wrapped around her kidney and they removed it . With every breath in our body’s we hoped that it was a success. In the following weeks she under went  fertility treatment in a hope to save her eggs ( ‘for her future self’) before starting chemotherapy. After chemotherapy Hayley seemed to pick up for a little bit , but within a week she was back in hospital with an infection. It was sepsis .After 10 long days they got the sepsis under control. Hayley was sent for another scan . Within 10 minutes doctors filled the room. She was on her own . They explained that they had found numerous tumours in her lung , leg , kidney…
This was the moment..where we realised…we were powerless…
Shortly after that we were told Hayley had a sarcoma…

On the 4th of July 2021 at 21.21 Hayley fell asleep.

The days , weeks and months that followed blurred into one… dark days

Throughout Hayley’s treatment and then diagnosis I felt detached… it was so devastatingly shocking it was beyond belief.

In January , it hit me …I was emotionally and physically exhausted. I couldn’t get of the couch… I couldn’t stop crying.

Hayley had said to me ..you can grieve for a year ,but then you need to carry on .. otherwise that would be an insult to her life.

Hayley lost the use of her legs , so I decided to use mine in memory of my beautiful girl xxxxx
I’m so proud to be running alongside Hayley’s best friends.. we can ,and we will do this.

From Lana & Jade:

We witnessed Hayley smiling, cracking jokes and being the life and soul right until the very end. Through all the suffering she went through she never failed to light up any room.

After losing Hayley we were in shell shock and then the grief struck us like a dagger to the heart. We made Hayley a promise that we would live our lives to the fullest. But how can we when this pain in our hearts stop us from wanted to face the world?! Well Hayley.....we know you have something to do with this marathon malarkey. We know you stitched us up for the laughs. (Thanks for that) but we also realise you have done this to drag us out of our beds and get us out there.

We made you a promise and that was to look after your mummy. Well look at us now Hayley babes, we are running the London Marathon with your mummy. We will never break your promise. This is all for you.

If you know us, then you know we do not run. So this will be a challenge and it will not be easy. But there was nothing easy about what Hayley went through so bring it on!!

No one should lose their daughter, family member & friend at the age of 30. We need your help to raise some money for Sarcoma. So much more research needs to be done. So please if you are able to donate it would really mean so much to us.

Thank you.
