Story

Hi, Thanks for taking a few moments to visit my page..:-)

OK so I can't grow a moustache for Movember but for Prostate Cancer, what I can do, is run a marathon.

Prostate Cancer is something that has affected my family directly, and I am running the Greater Manchester Marathon on 29th April 2012, and the BUPA Manchester 10K on 20th May in memory of my grandad Eric Gamble (died aged 67) and for my uncle Peter who is fighting it.

Here's the Science:

Men with one or more first-degree relatives (father, brother or son) diagnosed with prostate cancer have an increased risk of prostate cancer, especially if the relative was diagnosed before the age of 60.

  • Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK and is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK after lung cancer.
  • In the 1970s less than a third of men diagnosed with prostate cancer survived their disease beyond five years, now it’s more than 75%; however, much of this increase can be attributed to the increased use of PSA testing in the UK which has led to the diagnosis of many prostate cancers which would have gone undetected.
  • Over the last 30 years prostate cancer rates in Great Britrain have almost tripled.
  • If you are not able to donate then please read the following about Prostate Cancer and spread the word to the men you know and love

    Thanks!
