Story
My grandmother was a teacher in a govt. school in Morena, M.P. and helped many students get an effective education system. Although, state govt. provides free education to the kids till the age of 14, it was not practised very efficiently when my amma was posted there and the root cause was corruption and ignorance.
During her time, she inspired fellow teachers to be involved in the cause, fought the corrupt system, raised her voice against the unjust govt. malpractices that were found in the school and after tedious terms and years of persistence, she managed to have an almost fair system. She educated those who lack that privilege and motivated the students from nearby villages to attend schools. She was very supportive of girls education and it's because of her my sister and I could manage to break gender stereotypes, learned to fight for our equality in personal or professional lives and have progressed in our careers.
She has left us now but her ideas are still with us and therefore, I want to pay tribute to her by raising funds for Action village India (AVI). With your support, over 200 girls per year can afford education in Uttarakhand, India. AVI not only works towards education in rural India, but also helps promote access to clean water, healthcare, judiciary system, etc.
