Dear family, friends and colleagues,

On June 10, 2012, my mother Valerie Farley passed away in the arms of my father, brother and I after suffering for over 40 years from multiple sclerosis. She was a remarkable and inspirational woman who despite fighting multiple sclerosis for the majority of her life never once complained or expressed any resentment towards her situation.

Throughout my childhood I remember a close association that my mother had with the local Multiple Sclerosis Society and from this she drew a huge amount of emotional support. It is therefore in memory of her that I have decided to cycle the 2013 Etape du Tour and help her pay something back to the charity that gave her so much during her life.

The Etape du Tour is a cycle ride unlike any other. At 130 km through the French Alps, with over 5000 metres of vertical elevation, it tests every participants physical and mental limits. It is not something that I think I could accomplish without the commitment that I have made in memory of my mother and the Muliple Sclerosis Society.
