What I'm doing
Those of you who've known me a while will know that I used to do a lot more long-distance cycling, but that was in my twenties and thirties - I'm expecting it to be a lot harder in my fifties!
We'll be cycling 350km in 5 days on tough terrain with some difficult climbs and less-than-ideal surfaces, but the biggest challenge is rasing the funds I've pledged!
Of course, this adventure is going to be a great experience, so I'm not asking you to fund my trip - I will be covering the cost of the tour myself. All the money you donate I can guarantee will go directly to the Genesis Research Trust. I also promise that this will be a one-off!
What I'm raising money for and why
This charity funds research in the field of
gynaecology, obstetrics and related fields in paediatrics. It promotes the study of
healthy childbearing and diseases of women. I recently heard Lord Robert Winston, who's the Chair of the Trust, explain that the research unit out of which the Trust grew developed the cervical smear test and the use of ultrasound in a medical context. His team has also pioneered IVF treatment, and this is where I have most affinity with the work of the Trust. Without the outcome of this research, we would not have the blessing of our lovely son, Isaac.
