Story

This page is has been set up in memory of Claire O'Brien; a loving wife, brilliant mum, devoted cyclist, adored daughter and much loved sister.

She passed away 19th August 2014 from Leukaemia. She had been living with a blood cancer for over ten years.

Claire was born in Oswestry, studied in Ysgol Uwchardd Llanfyllin High School and went on to Oxford and Liverpool University. Post university, Claire worked in various roles such as The British Library as well as teaching English in Paris.

Claire, not only managed to raise three children despite having her condition, but was also a dedicated cyclist and volunteer as well as raising money for charities such as Cure Leukaemia, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and Act 4 Africa.

She devoted a lot of time and energy to her love of cycling and her  achievements are inspiring. She was a keen club cyclists for the Weaver Valley Cycling Club, got more women into riding bikes as a Breeze Leader, cycled from London to Paris for Charity, and had recently joined the Sky Ride. Not only this but she campaigned for safer cycling in Cheshire, was appointed a Tour de France ambassador and had a part time appointment with British Cycling.
She encouraged many to take up cycling and it didn't matter the ability, she was always willing.

We have chosen the charity Cyclist Fight Cancer as they help children get on their bikes who have suffered something similar. Not only this but they fund research to show cycling, and other sports, help alleviate the symptoms that are common with cancer suffers, something which Claire definitely believed was true.

Not only a cyclist, Claire did so much and will be missed by many. By creating this page, we hope that Claire's legacy lives on and still keeps on inspiring.
