Story
Introducing Indy, my beautiful granddaughter...
July 19th 2022
Lovely summers day, Indy and little brother Isaac playing in the garden
Tea time, in they come and sit at the table
Mummy (my daughter Hayley), looks over. Suddenly Indy appears to be 'chasing flies with her eyes'. Daddy calls ambulance
I'm across the road watering. I hear sirens, see blue lights. Not once did it occur to me that I'd see paramedics, police, support units running down my daughter's drive...
I ran over, Indy was on the floor, stopped breathing for several minutes and was having mouth to mouth... resuscitated and rushed to hospital with mummy...
Daddy, Isaac and me just stood at the end of the drive, stunned...
The unexpected nightmare began:
No cause could be identified
Indy suffers 50+ seizures a day
In and out of hospital for emergency treatment
Massive daily medication
Indy house or hospital bound
Test after test
Referred to Evelina Hospital and conversations with medics and neurology teams consider major brain surgery. Indy was put forward for final resort - surgical assessment...
February 2023 - in Great Ormond Street Indy begins her surgical pathway - brain surgery and post surgical treatment, family always by her side
February 2024, one year seizure free, a video call is held with the surgical team and the family - mummy, daddy and kids. Indy is signed OFF the surgical register
Today, Indy continues to be under the neurological team and suffers with memory problems. She is still on daily meds and continues on her recovery plan
BUT...she is happy, funny, bright and so considerate and kind to everyone. She laughs and plays again so....
THANK YOU to
Every medic who has been on her journey from the start to now
Family, friends, school, work and to everyone who has crossed this unbelievable path
Mummy, Daddy, Isaac, best dog Max for their incredible love
AND Indy, our beautiful brave bear who can look forward to the future (she can't wait for birthday in August!!)
We are so grateful for everyone's support. Indy's endurance throughout this ordeal has been amazing. Luckily her diagnosis was benign but she had a life changing serious neurological condition.
There is very little funding for non cancer conditions even though families will also face the most traumatic journey and this story is to raise awareness of the huge financial challenges
Elaine, lovingly known as Ni-Ni to Indy and Isaac 💖💙
IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE EVENT BUT WOULD LIKE TO GIVE, PLEASE DONATE HERE.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH
