We provide a helicopter emergency service to rapidly respond to medical emergencies

Story

Hi,

I'm raising money for Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance because they recently flew out for us, called out by the ambulance service, as they thought the helicopter was going to be needed.  It was for my daughter, Savannah, who was going through what we didn't realise at the time was a reflex anoxic seizure (RAS).  Now we know that she has this condition we can look back and feel more reassured about what she was going through, and understand that it was something that she was going to come out of naturally.  But at the time we had no idea. All we could see was what seemed to be a lifeless body and it was truly terrifying.

In the end, we didn't need to use the Air Ambulance as the doctors on board the helicopter were satisfied that Savannah would be ok to be taken to hospital in a normal ambulance.

But when I read that the Air Ambulance service relies solely on donations, and that each call out costs around £1700.00, I thought that it'd be great to be able to at least cover what it may have cost them to come out for us.  Even though we didn't need to use the helicopter, it was very reassuring to know it was there, and the speed with which it arrived was amazing.

The people in the village were also great and we were lucky to have such supportive and quick-thinking people around.

Another very worthy charity is the charity for the condition that Savannah has (RAS), called STARS.  If I do anything similar in the future I'll be really glad to support them.

A quick note on the event - I was doing it anyway, but when this happened I thought it'd be a great opportunity to raise some money for an amazing cause.  The build up hasn't been ideal - I was diagnosed with a DVT in May and have had various injuries since - but if I can get around at all, regardless of my time, then I'll be happy. And if some money can go to this service then that's even better. It really puts things like finishing times into perspective.

Thanks for your time,

Josh
