We focus on early diagnosis and awareness to improve survival of pancreatic cancer

Story

November 2015 was a bittersweet month for me. My son was born, we were just adapting to our new life in Cornwall when we recieved a devastating phonecall. It was my mother in law. She was crying. She told me she had weeks to live as she had just beein diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The words hit me like a ton of bricks, tears started to flow from my eyes. I had so many questions, i was numb and in shock. All i knew was that we had to get back to Nottingham. We threw everything together and left Cornwall.

On the drive back to Nottingham me and my fiance sat silently crying. The drive felt longer than usual.

The following morning we greeted Lorraine who had just come out of hospital to basically pass away at home. There were no words from us, we just embraced Lorraine. We all cried.

Then she quickly straightened herself up and said ' Now wheres my grandson?'

She held him, she cuddled and kissed him, she spoke to him and each in turn me and my fiance left the room whilst we cried trying to be strong for Lorraine.

She was told she had weeks to live one of her dying wishes was to marry her childhood sweetheart Shane. Everyone rallied round and the following week she was walking down the aisle with the biggest smile on her face. It was such a bittersweet day.

5 days after her wedding Lorraine passed away she didn't have weeks it took 11 days for the cancer to take her.

Our lives had been shattered by something we never thought we would have to deal with. Cancer. But not only that Pancreatic cancer.

Cancer of the pancreas is difficult to treat. It rarely causes any symptoms in the early stages, so it's often not detected until the cancer is fairly advanced. If the tumour is large, treating the cancer will be more difficult.

This is why I want to raise money for pancreatic cancer, to help with the research and awareness into it so hopefully more lifes arn't lost.

This is my little tribute to Lorraine, a women I loved and cherished and remember everyday.

If you can spare even a £1 every little penny helps us to fight this awful disease xx
