Story
Welcome friends!
Two years ago, I ran my first ever 10k for Prostate Cancer UK in memory of my dad, Michael Salter, who passed away in August 2010. He was a total one off - actor, food and drink appreciator, political activist, stone polisher, vegetable grower, synagogue attender, opera aficionado, reader, writer, and an avid Manchester City (and Sunderland and Charlton and Crystal Palace and West Ham) fan. He'd be well chuffed with the last few seasons. Most of all, he loved his family and we loved him.
Since then, I've run two half marathons, around ten 10k's, 40 5k's and was feeling very pleased with myself, despite my slowness of pace, absence of form and lack of ability to wear stretchy fabric stylishly.
Two things, one big, one small, have happened this year to knock me out of my complacency. Firstly, I got ill. Not too seriously, but enough for a serious refocus on what life has to offer - and what I have to offer it. Secondly, a 'friend' (you know who you are) told me that very, very soon I would reach the end of my running career (thanks) and that rather than looking back with satisfaction at all my running achievements, I would always look back with regret that I hadn't run the 'big one'.
So, for dad, for the memories, and for an amazing charity, to paraphrase Dave in the Full Monty, I may not be young, I may not be pretty, I may not be right good, but I'm here, I'm live and for one time only, I'm going for the full 26.2 miles!
With love and thanks
