Story
Eighteen years ago my Granny, Jennifer Clarke, was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease. This disease is degenerative in both mind and body. It is relatively unknown and, to date, there is no known cure. The devastation of this disease, as well as affecting my Granny, has also had a significant impact on my family. On top of the additional care needs and psychological effects of watching a loved one deteriorate, because the disease is hereditary, there is the all too real possibility of this continuing to affect my family (my mother, my uncles, and myself).
The scientific research that the Huntington's Disease Association supports is vital for improving the quality of life for those affected by the disease. Current studies and causes being supported by the charity include supporting and promoting physical activity in people who suffer from the disease; research into how to prevent those with the disease being taken advantage of financially; research into creating a therapy for dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) - a symptom of the later stages of the disease; and HDBuzz (https://en.hdbuzz.net/), a website which puts research into Huntington's Disease into plain language for those affected and their families.
If you can support this in any way (even just by sharing if you don't have the means to donate yourself), my family and I would be incredibly grateful.
