Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our Mother was gracious, kind, loving and a giving lady who had a heart big enough to give a piece to everyone she came into contact with and believe us when we say she touched so many people. She was solid in her faith and gave help and advice to everyone regardless of age, race, religion etc. Overall our Mum was selfless..

Mum was diagnosed with Myeloma 7/8 years ago and her way of dealing with it was 'to have faith, be herself and carry on doing her work on earth'. Mum refused to be defined or become a victim of this terrible blood cancer, and instead carried herself with great poise, dignity and respect. Throughout the stem cell treatments, the transfusions, the chemo infusions, and umpteen blood tests Mum always had a smile, lots of jokes and wise words for all the nurses, doctors, consultants at RBH, who were wonderful and did an amazing job of looking after our Mum.

Myeloma, also known as multiple myeloma, is a blood cancer arising from plasma cells. At any one time there are around 24,000 people living with myeloma in the UK. It accounts for 15 per cent of blood cancers, and two per cent of all cancers. Myeloma mainly affects those over the age of 65, however it has been diagnosed in people much younger. Myeloma is treatable and the treatment can be very effective at controlling the disease, relieving its symptoms and complications, and prolonging life. However and very unfortunately, myeloma is currently an incurable (terminal) cancer AT THIS PRESENT TIME..

There is still no permanent cure for myeloma, however, there are many trials taking place where new treatments have been found and mum was fortunate to trial a couple which helped prolong her life but there is still NO PERMANENT CURE.

Mum was told 3 weeks before she passed that there was nothing more that could be done for her, the treatments that were available we no longer working and my mum calmly thanked the consultant and nurse and with her faith said 'God is in Control' and we had a good laugh and joke on the way home.. SHE IS TRULY AMAZING. Our mum did not fall ill until the last 1 1/2 weeks before she passed on 31 May 2020, and thankfully she did not suffer and passed away peacefully.

It is our wish to help find a PERMANENT cure for this terrible disease or 'condition' as Mum called it and that is the reason for setting up this JustGIving page in Mum's Memory.. As I state above Mum was selfless and so we know she would want to help as many others as possible and  help to find a permanent solution.

Please donate as little or a much as you like, every penny helps.

Thank you for your support and thank you to all the RBH Staff who helped Mum throughout the years..

'Just keep remember her smiling ....'

Love from her children
