Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
After 12 months of deteriorating health due to liver failure I was referred to the Liver transplant team at the Royal Free Hospital in London. After a rigorous assessment of my suitability I was accepted to be listed for a liver transplant. I was on the list for just two weeks when I received an early morning phone call. It was one of the transplant nurse coordinators "we may have a liver for you and there will be an ambulance outside your address in 20 minutes." Prepared or not I was at the hospital within 20 minutes. The next real memory was two days later feeling amazing after being woken to be told I now had a new liver and all had gone well. Eighteen days later I was discharged. From the day of the transplant I felt reborn and only then did I realise how ill I had been. There are so many people I have to be grateful for, Lucy for caring for me when I was so ill, my brothers and sisters for their support and my children for being there for me. I cannot even begin to say how thankful I am to my donor who gave me the gift of life. One small way I can repay is by becoming as well as I can possibly be and doing this walk will at least prove my amazing recovery and give something to the hospital and all the staff who got me to where I am today.
