We help and support UK families to find the best in Angelman Syndrome.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  To complete the London Classics this year I'm running the London Marathon for ASSERT who are a charity that help families whose children have Angelman syndrome.

I chose this charity in memory of a very charming, talented and kind family friend, Alistair Blackburn, who sadly passed away last year.  His son, Callum, has Angelman Syndrome and ASSERT helped their family when he was first diagnosed with the condition.   Callum, like other children with this rare genetic disorder, has experienced significant physical and cognitive delay, making independent life impossible.  However, despite the many daily obstacles, he, like other Angels as they are fondly known, has an incredible personality and love for people.  His smile is unique and almost always lights up every room he enters.    Any donation, however small, will help other families with children with Angelman Syndrome too.

Alistair was a great fundraiser himself and achieved some great challenges involving dog sledding and sleeping in snow holes in -30 degrees and cycling over mountains in Ibiza.   With that in mind I will have no excuses but get out training and cross the finish line as I know Alistair would have done with in style if he was doing it himself!

Thank you to Jo (Alistair's sister) and Heidi (Alistair's wife) for helping me put this page together and being so supportive.   Jo & I will be running a half marathon together on Easter Sunday.  We'll keep you posted with how we get on!
