Story

We are organising this football match in memory of John Risk - a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, family man and friend. It will be played between the 'Risks' and the 'Rest' on Sunday 23rd September 2012 at the Old Isleworthians Association, Wood Lane, Isleworth. Kick off 1.30pm.

John was passionate about football throughout his life and helped to establish Wayfarers FC in 1961; he was their first captain. In 1965 he played his first game for the Old Isleworthians FC and his last 46 years later. He won every major award for the club and was selected to play for the AFA; a significant achievement. He was honoured by OIFC when he reached his 30 and 40 year playing milestones and I think we all expected him to achieve 50 consecutive years of playing.

The Risk team will be managed by Chris Allum, who was the driving force behind Wayfarers for nearly 50 years, and will be captained by David, John's son. The Rest will be managed by John's good friend Kevan Woodhouse and captained by Jamie Brunton, the current OIFC Chairman.

Money raised from the game will go to Barnardo's, the charity John supported when he completed the London Marathon in 2006. We are fortunate that through our cousin, Keith, Adidas have donated two sets of kit that the players will 'buy' for the privilege of playing. The shirts carry the emblem that has been designed by Simon Dry, of Dry Designs, another member of our extended family. The emblem recognises John's particular love of trees that developed over the years.

How can you help?

We have been overwhelmed with requests to play and the lucky players who will receive a memoral shirt have been notified. However, if you have only just heard about the game and fancy time on the pitch, please contact Chris, David, Kevan, Jamie or myself - we will see what we can do.

If your playing days are behind you, we would still love you to join us at Wood Lane for the game. Given the oldest 'Risk' player will be 69 and that there will a number of age 50+ players, your support will be very welcome; and if you know any medics please bring them along too. There will be additional fund raising activities on the day, including a raffle and a memorial programme. If you wish to make a donation in advance of the game, please use this site.

Finally, if you are unable to join us on the 23rd September, we would welcome your donation via this page as it will honour a good man and go to a worthy cause that he believed in. Every pound donated will secure you a ticket in the raffle that will be drawn after the game.

The family are agreed that this will be a 'one off' game that we want to make special in John's memory. Please support us if you can.

Thank You

Peter Risk, on behalf of the Risk family
