Story
I am the Funding and Communications Officer for the Limbless Association a charity that supports amputees to achieve rehabilitation and independence.
I have taken part in various events in the run up to the 2018 London Marathon and have encouraged others to join me. #JoinJoel is about raising the profile of the Limbless Association and also encouraging others to challenge themselves to achieve something that they might not have considered before.
I completed the following events in the run up to the London Marathon:
- Burnley 10K (4th June)
- Gauntlet Games London (24th June)
- Leeds 10K (9th July)
- Superhero Tri (19th August)
- Tonbridge Half Marathon (1st October)
- Amsterdam Marathon (15th October)
- Benfleet 15 (21st January)
- Dartford half marathon (11th March)
- London Marathon (22nd April)
I PLEDGED TO RUN 3 MARATHONS IN MY FINAL YEAR OF MY 20's! I WILL TURN 30 IN OCTOBER AND THE LONDON MARATHON WILL BE MY 2ND MARATHON. I AM CONSIDERING RUNNING EDINBURGH MARATHON AT THE END OF MAY
I was incredibly lucky to get my place through the ballot process and as I am responsible for the fundraising at the Limbless Association I thought I had better put my money where my mouth is, so quickly chose to fundraise for the LA!
I have seen just how vital our services are to the Limb Loss community, particularly in regards to our fantastic volunteer visitor service, I
get to see what a huge difference it makes to individuals and their
families at a difficult time.
I would really appreciate your sponsorship, it will keep me going through each mile! Whatever you can give would be greatly appreciated.
I last run the London Marathon in 2012 and ran it in roughly 4 hours 33 minutes and 45 seconds. I had an injury that caused me to walk the final 3miles so I was disappointed that I didn't finish quicker. My brother also ran the same event and I actually beat him, which is a first! Unfortunately that success was short lived as he soon ran a marathon in 4:28:18 so naturally this is my target for 2018! I've aged and put on 3 stone just to make it more of a challenge...
I can't wait to take part in the London Marathon again, although I do wish I had longer to train!
