Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page. Scheduled for October 2, 2022, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to run the 2022 London Marathon in support of Hospice UK. They are a wonderful organization based in London working to provide hospice care to all those in need. I personally feel passionate supporting Hospice UK, because I know first-hand the benefits hospice care provides to patients and their families.
Hospice care is designed to empower patients and their family members during serious illness and death. Patients can control how they live out their final months; families can benefit from physical and emotional support while spending quality time with their loved ones.
I have had three family members of mine (maternal grandmother and grandfather and paternal grandfather) receive hospice care. In each instance, I was impressed with the level care, detail, and comfort the nurses and hospice aides provided to each of my family members throughout their health care journey.
For example, my maternal grandmother received hospice care for more than two years. The nurses and hospice aides became close friends with my grandmother and even a few of our family members. After her passing in 2017, several of her caregivers came to her funeral, which my family holds close in our memories.
Even though this will be my ninth marathon, this race has double meaning to me, to support Hospice UK in memory of my late grandparents while also racing to complete my fourth marathon of the World Marathon Series (Chicago, NYC, Boston, Berlin, London, and Toyko). I have finished the Chicago Marathon (2017 & 2019), New York City Marathon (2014, 2015, & 2018),
and the Berlin Marathon (2021).
If you feel so inclined, the donation you make will have a massive impact for individuals throughout the UK that are unable to afford hospice care. Currently, 1 in 4 people who need hospice and end of life care in the UK can't access it. With your support, both of us can work to ensure that everyone who needs hospice care, gets it.
