Rosie May Foundation 10K

Rosie May Foundation 10K · 16 June 2019
The Rosie May Foundation was founded by Rosie Mays parents after the murder of their only daughter, Rosie May age 10 in December 2003. In December 2004 the family decided Christmas at home would be unbearable without their daughter who especially loved this time of year. So they decided to escape with their two sons from the horrific recollections of the year before. On Christmas day in South East Asia a tiny palm tree was planted by Rosies family in memory of their beautiful little girl. On Boxing Day their paradise island in the Indian Ocean was engulfed by the 2004 Asian Tsunami. It claimed more than 230,000 lives across fourteen different countries and was one of the deadliest natural disasters ever recorded. In Sri Lanka, thousands of children were made parentless by the tsunami and this was the inspiration for the foundations very first project the Rosie May Home. The Rosie May Foundation works directly on the ground in both Sri Lanka and Nepal to protect vulnerable children.
