On the 20th January 2020, we lost our fabulous friend Penny to ovarian cancer, she was only 49 years old. When Penny was first diagnosed in 2017, she was determined to beat this awful disease, despite the appalling odds she was given. With typical Penny humour and positivity, the tumour was given the name of Kevin, (We need to talk about Kevin) and Penny fought so incredibly hard to banish him but sadly he just kept re-appearing. We often spoke about "Bloody Kevin!"
During Penny's final months Dorothy House worked tirelessly to support her and her family. After a short in patient stay in mid December, they made sure that she could have her wish of spending Christmas at home and spending her last moments there with her much loved family.
Penny was a key member of the teacher practitioner team in the Pharmacy Department at the University of Bath. We will always remember Penny with fondness, she had a generous heart, a wicked sense of humour and a delightful laugh. Everyone loved Penny.
As a tribute to our gorgeous friend, over the next 6 months team "Bloody Kevin!" - will take on many personal challenges in the hope of raising funds for this amazing place as a thank you for all that they did for our beloved Penny. First up is the Bath Half..... I remember running this in 2017 and seeing Penny frantically running across the road to high five me as I approached the final 400 metres.... a little later another runner approached in tears, Pen was the one to again jump out, give this stranger a hug, remind them of just what they had achieved and reassure them they could make it and were almost there....that was Penny, always selfless and loving.
If you would like to support us in our efforts Team "Bloody Kevin!" would be extremely grateful. Thank you x
