My story
At twenty two weeks pregnant with my 2nd child, we were really looking forward to having a little brother or sister for our 2year old daughter.
I was booked in for an extra scan, which my mum was able to come along and see the scan first hand....and the the silence.... the awkwardness. The next few seconds seemed like forever until the sonography spoke and delivered the devastating news that there was no heartbeat. Our little baby had died.
I was taken to a private room where my husband came to collect me. We were briefed on the process of having to deliver my beautiful son and followed the instructions. We went home and waited for the onset of labour.
May 27th 2010 our tiny beautiful baby Archie was born at 08.36am.
The hospital staff were amazing but, at the time, there was no facility to segregate me from mums experiencing the joy of having healthy babies. Since then, the butterfly room, a brilliant facility has been established which allows parents private time to say goodbye to their babies, to get bereavement counselling and more focus and time from dedicated staff.
The baby bereavement service works hard to support the devastated mums and families who tragically suffer the loss of a baby. I dedicate this London marathon to Archie and all the other families who have or will experience a loss. If I can raise a little bit of money to contribute to this amazing service, I will feel blessed that I have the strength, courage and determination to do something positive from such a negative experience, which will in turn help others. Please dig deep, any donation is much appreciated.
